September Sports Report
I would like to thank our New York State President, brother John Manning, for re-appointing me as New York State Sports Chairman. It is indeed an honor. Congratulations to all our New York State officers, both elected and appointed. It was a great convention.
I am hoping that the pandemic will soon be behind us. We will have a New York State bowling tournament towards the end of November in Nassau County. I will be sending out more info as the plans get finalized. All are welcome to attend.
At this tournament, we usually play for the cup. I am looking to reformat the tournament. My suggestion is that each district run a bowling tournament and the top three teams from each district play in a final sometime in the Spring, in a central location. If your district feels you do not have enough people to compete then possibly amalgamate with a district near you. If we could get three tournaments running that would be great. one upstate, one midstate, and one downstate. I am asking the help of the district directors with this project.
We have a few big events coming up in District 6:
1) On September 19th we have the 49th Annual Nassau County AOH Feis and Festival.. Most of you know our honoree. John O'Connell, our National Hibernian Digest Editor.
2) Also on October 17th, we have the Long Island Irish Fest. We have a great lineup of bands for this event.
Please try and support these events if you can. The fliers for both events are attached.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at our semi-annual board meeting.
Yours in Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity,
Michael Byrne
