Seán Mac Diarmada's birthday
Today is the day we celebrate the birth, and too short life, of the incomparable Sean Mac Diarmada. Sometimes overlooked by the passion of Parick Pearse and the conviction of Joseph Connelly...but, nonetheless, a formidable Irish-Republican and unofficial ambassador to the American-Irish community. Mac Diarmada, the great friend of, and co-strategist with, the great Thomas Clarke, was an instrumental strategist in the founding of the Irish Republic in 1916. And he paid the ultimate price.
