Second Sunday of Advent Reflection—December 4, 2022

Waiting is not an easy process for any of us. It is with patience and great expectation that our waiting can become more bearable. In today’s Gospel, John the Baptist cries out that we prepare the way for Christ to be born again among us.

Our waiting for the Lord must not be a passive one. We must actively wait and prepare for the love of God dwelling among us. Christ coming among us will demand some sort of change or transformation. Because of Jesus’ presence in our lives, we are no longer the same. God opens his life and love to us as we struggle to be better people in this world with each other.

As we light the second candle of our Advent wreath, we proclaim our faith in God’s love for us all.  While we are waiting for the Lord 1) Be ready to change. 2) Acknowledge that God will help us change. 3)   Cry out to the Holy Spirit to open our hearts to others. 4) Always have trust that God is with us. We need each other. Identify at least one action that you will take this week in preparing a way for the Lord in your life.

We must be prepared to see Jesus among us. This is not an easy task. It is our ongoing mission as Christians. Just as John the Baptist cried out, we must cry out when we see so many things that challenge or hinder this mission from being carried out. As we witness the Good News proclaimed to us all, we must act in solidarity with those who hunger and thirst for what is right.

Knowing that the road may be rough ahead and things don’t seem clear or straight, we push on toward the goal that will change us.  Even with the twists and turns we may encounter along our journey, through faith, we will become a people of hope and peace.
